HMFD chief executive officer Belinda Anderson said the field day’s team would present an event maintaining a focus on agriculture and machinery.
Mrs Anderson said high commodity prices and low interest rates would combine to make livestock handling equipment, fencing and grain storage the hot ticket items. She said sealed surfaces in Sheep Dog Run, Petticoat Lane and the main entrances would benefit visitors in the event of wet weather.
“The field days would go ahead “rain, hail or shine’’, with contingency plans in place for some outdoor events on the program,” she said.
“Motorists need to heed the directions of the HMFD traffic control team on arrival, and can also access livetraffic.com to check on diversions due to possible road closures,’’ Mrs Anderson said.
“Drainage works undertaken by Moane Fitzgerald Constructions ensure the site has weathered the recent rainfall well.
“Spring weather is always unpredictable and field day patrons are advised to dress to the conditions.
“Visitors can also check the HMFD Facebook page for the latest information.’’
All of the Country Lifestyle and ET exhibitors will be under cover this year in the new 120m long Taylor Wood Pavilion.
The pavilion, named in honour of field day stalwarts Milton Taylor and Colin Wood, will be officially opened at 2pm on Tuesday.
To pay tribute to the nation’s dairy industry during its time of crisis, the field days will be officially opened by Australian Dairy Farmers vice-president Simone Jolliffe, of Euberta.
The prestigious Henty Machine of the Year Award has drawn 26 entries, with the winner announced at the official opening.
Other drawcards at the 2016 event will be the daily demonstrations of Parelli natural horsemanship, the sheep and yard dog trials, 2016 Natural Fibre Fashion Awards, chainsaw carving, vintage farm machinery, and the Farm Gate Produce Market Area with entertainment by Dreamfields creative mentoring program.
- Gates are open from 8am to 5pm, with adult tickets $20, children 12 to 16 years $5, and children under 12 free when accompanied by an adult.
