The women aren’t as fit as they were this time last year; training has been fragmented, due to facilities in Wagga.
“I think Junee are a very fit side this year,” he said, after the major semi-final on September 4.
“We have two weeks, we’re not going to improve our fitness.”
While the Hawks won the final 4-1, they lost the second half. A defensive weakness was revealed.
“They exploited us out wide a fair bit,” he said.
“They caught us out of position, and we don’t have that same pace as them.”
On paper, Hawks enter the grand final as favourites, but Buik’s hedging his bets.
“You look at any sport, you can have the best team in the world, and anything could happen," he said.
“I’m pleased with their effort. If we win the grand final, it’s a bonus. If we don’t, we’ll be disappointed but it’s been really good.”
