Senator Hinch used his adjournment speech on Tuesday night to name a person who he said was a convicted child molester, claiming McDonald's was implementing a compulsory criminal background check for adult applicants, to be rolled out within two months, after his office contacted the fast food chain about a Sydney employee.
The Victorian Senator said he had been contacted by a mother of one of the man's victims after she discovered he was working at a local McDonald's and Pizza Hut and her warnings were ignored.
"To add to this family's emotional turmoil, 'Paul's' [not his name] mother went to McDonald's to warn them. She went to the police and was warned not to mention the paedophile's name in public or she could be in trouble.
"She went to politicians. And nobody tried to help her. Nobody asked the obvious bloody question - didn't McDonald's, employer of thousands of teenagers, didn't McDonald's have a working with children permit policy? Didn't Pizza Hut?
"The answer was no."
Senator Hinch said the woman had spent five years lobbying politicians and "it all fell on deaf ears", but after she wrote to him last month, he felt compelled to act and contacted the fast-food chain.
"Within a week we were told that McDonald's IT department was implementing a compulsory criminal background check for over 18-year-old applicants, and predicted this will be rolled out nationally within six to eight weeks," he said.
The man has been sacked from his job at Pizza Hut after Senator Hinch's office contacted them and also banned from a sports club.
During his first speech on Monday, Senator Hinch named five sex offenders as part of his agenda to seek a public national sex offenders register.
He had previously been jailed for publishing suppressed criminal history information and placed under house arrest for publicly naming a paedophile.
The Senator said he would not hesitate to continue to name offenders, despite court orders, under parliamentary privilege, if he believed it would better serve justice.
Comment was being sought from McDonald's.
