A deluge of rain on the eve of the Farrer League grand final proved costly at the gate but showed up the value of Robertson Oval as a surface according to Farrer League president David Oehm.

Oehm said he “could’ve cried” on Saturday morning when showers continued after 50mm of rain overnight. But he praised Wagga council for the presentation of Robertson Oval.
“It’s a magnificent surface, we’re very lucky to have that in the area,” Oehm said.
“We couldn’t have played anywhere else without it being horrific. We’d probably had four inches of rain from Friday to Friday before the game.”
The $24,000 gate was the league’s lowest since 2009, down $8500 on last year.
In better weather on Sunday, Group Nine’s gate was $28,000, down around $5000 on last year.
Operations manager Peter Ryan said concerns of flooding around Equex on Saturday may have kept the numbers down but they were just pleased to finish with a rare sunny day this season.
