Flynn was one of eight Riverina players in the GWS reserves side which beat cross-town rivals the Sydney Swans in a pulsating final of the North East Australian Football League (NEAFL) on Sunday.
The ruckman enjoyed a role forward and picked up two goals in the thrilling four-point win, his first ever grand final appearance.
“I absolutely loved it, to be honest,” Flynn said. “It was pretty nerve-wracking the whole time. The whole game it was just up and down. It was more relief than anything at the end.”
Flynn said it was a great experience playing on Swans star Ted Richards during the second half. And to share the victory with a host of Riverina locals made it that much more enjoyable.
Temora’s Jake Barrett was the Giants’ best with 32 touches and also kicked two goals. Wagga’s Connor Byrne kicked a goal while Harry Himmelberg (Mangoplah), Matt Kennedy (Collingullie), Lucas Meline (Leeton), Jeremy Finlayson (Culcairn) and Harrison Macreadie (Henty) were also part of the win.
Flynn said it’s been an amazing year to be involved at the club where there’s enormous excitement around their first AFL finals series.
“It was a ripping weekend for the club – first (AFL) final and to get over the Swans on Saturday and then for us to get over them in the seconds as well, it’s good,” he said.
Leeton’s Jacob Hopper and Narrandera’s Zac Williams played in the seniors.
