Had leave for the day, so borrowed a bike and rode to Poperinghe in Belgium in order to see Morris D and other members of the A.I.F. who had just returned from the Somme. It was a most enjoyable ride, the weather being good and the country looking fine. It was my first entry into Belgium and I soon came on Belgian soldiers, who were very English looking, their khaki uniforms helping the deception. The various names of villages etc. were of good length and most difficult to pronounce. Although I failed to see Morris, still I had an excellent day visiting old friends, pedalling a distance of close to 50 miles.
