The introduction of a women’s squad has been two years in the making for the Wagga City Wanderers, established in 2015.
“It’s exciting times,” club director Marty Loy said.
“We’ll certainly be looking for the local talent to come along and get involved.
“We’re providing an awesome opportunity for women in Wagga, in creating a pathway for them.”
This season, the Premier League has comprised of six teams including second-placed Canberra FC, a squad that demolished Football Wagga 2015 Team of Year 7-0 in a demonstration match in March.
Loy’s confident with the right coach on board, Wagga’s team will thrive.
“I think we’re going to have a pretty competitive side,” he said.
Trial dates and pre-season dates will be released by Friday, September 9.
Women’s coaching job applications close on Friday.
“Trials will be at the same time and location as men’s trials,” he said.
“If it all goes ahead, the women will have same support staff as the men, in terms of strappers on game-day.”
Capital Football’s yet to give the Wanderers the green light, but it’s all systems go until they hear otherwise according to Loy.
“We’re waiting to hear back from Capital Football, we should know by late September,” he said.
