Lawton Joseph ($3.60) let down strongly to take out the Harvey Norman 4YO+ Maiden Plate (1200m) at his first Australian start.
Dale has only been training for a couple of years but has quickly forged a reputation as one of the Southern District’s most astute trainers and he was at it again on Tuesday with another former Kiwi.
Dale got Lawton Joseph from the Kevin Myers stable at Wanganui, where the four-year-old had just the one third placing from one start.
Lawton Joseph came with a strong run to score for John Kissick at his Australian debut and Dale has his eye on the Country Championships.
“He gives me the feel he could be a nice Country Championships horse,” Dale said.
“It was over six (furlongs) today, but I know he will get better over seven.”
