It’s in stark contrast to other Riverina council areas, particularly in the west, where there’s plenty of talent on offer to voters.
In Leeton shire, 15 people have nominated for nine positions, while 19 Narrandera residents and 17 Bland shire residents have decided to run for nine seats in their respective areas. Out at Hay, 14 people have nominated for eight vacancies, while Griffith tops the tally with a whopping 24 candidates for 11 seats on council and five candidates for the popularly elected mayoral position.
Closer to Wagga, Lockhart’s ‘C’ Ward is uncontested with all three councillors retaining their seats, whilst ‘A’ and ‘B’ wards each have four candidates for three seats.
