Three tries in the first half gave the Wagga club a 21-0 lead over CSU and that was enough for victory on Saturday.
After a tight opening 10 minutes, Waratahs started to get the advantage and scored on their first visit inside CSU’s 22.
Inside centre Frank Coorey opened the scoring after he found plenty of space near the posts to score.
Seven minutes later halfback Adam McPherson, who stepped in for the ill Ruben Waters, doubled Waratahs’ lead when he scored under the posts.
The fatal blow for Reddies came just before the break.
After failing to find touch after a penatly, Waratahs were quick to counterattack.
After making a break up the middle Coorey was able to pop up a ball for man of the match Tom Finucane to score.
Neither team managed to score in the second stanza as poor weather, including moments of hail.
Captain Dan Selmes’ missed penalty goal attempt was as close as either team went to adding to the scoreboard.
Despite being held scoreless in the second half, Selmes was pleased by how his team dominated the first half.
“The forwards did really well in the conditions to get a good platform for our backs to do our thing,” Selmes said.
“In trying conditions it was always going to be hard work but we were lucky enough to put 21 points on the board in the first half.
“We held well on in the end.”
