A special robotics day at Kildare Catholic College has opened the eyes of students to a new electronic world. 

The day was part of a Google and Intel-backed program which gathered students and teachers from around the region in Wagga to encourage technological education. 

Kildare technologies coordinator Jennifer Holt hopes to make the pilot program a regular event, and has the backing of at least one of her students. 

“I definitely want them to bring this back to the school,” said year nine student Mick Huggett.  

“It’s been really interesting to learn how robot software works.

“It was my first time doing anything like this and it was way more fun than a normal day in class.”

Students were introduced to writing code and programming robots with the assistance of technology educators from Intel and teachers from around the state. 

Year fives spent the day writing code for devices which provided corresponding reactions, such as flashing lights. 

Year nines and tens programmed small four-wheeled robots to perform various tasks, including a synchronised robot routine.
