The conference, to be held on August 8, will be attended by the deputy chief justice of the Family Court of Australia, John Faulks.
Federal Court magistrate Joseph Harman will deliver the keynote address, discussing innovative practices being used to help achieve better outcomes for children at risk.
Dr Christina Sadowski will present ideas on shared parenting where there are high levels of conflict between parents after they have separated.
Adult educator Andrew King will talk about the impact on men of separation and their parenting after a split.
He says it is critical for fathers to realise the ongoing significance of their support – emotional, behavioural and financial – and the role they play in their children’s lives after separation.
Clinical psychologist, Dr Alison O’Neill, will address the conference on protecting children’s interests in high-risk environments.
She says family separation is a very distressing and potentially damaging experience for children.
