Keen-eyed Wagga Facebook spotter Bob Douglas sent The Daily Advertiser a picture of a restaurant located in the Philippines bearing the city’s name.
Wagga Wagga Jerk Chicken offers diners Jamaican cuisine. Of course, jerk chicken is the outlet’s blue ribbon meal, but other dishes on the menu include jerk wings, Caribbean sausage and bean sliders, mac and cheese, and hush puppies for the sweet tooth.
Manila guide website Spot.ph says the kitchen is run by a Sydney-trained chef, Justin David.
In what may be a case of lost in translation, the site claims Mr David told them wagga wagga means “fat man”, which could also be due to the city having the unsavoury tag of recently being labelled one of Australia’s most obese areas.
If you are keen to try it out – pack a lunch. The trip will take nearly 11 hours from The Daily Advertiser office, according to Google Maps.
