Lake scored three early goals in the first 15 minutes to leave Harlequins shell-shocked.
English import Tom Crossland continued his good form to add another three goals to his tally in a day that Harlequins would rather forget as numerous passes missed their targets. Lake Albert capitalised on these turnovers in the midfield with Jake Angel and Brendon Pottie the main beneficiaries from Harlequins mistakes. Not even a goal by Harlequins captain Brendan Watson could turn things around, as Lake had all the answers against the Green team.
The win paves the way for Lake Albert to steal third spot from CSU/Rivcoll if the uni squad continues to struggle.
For Harlequins, the loss keeps the door ajar for Royals in the race for the minor premiership.
Next week Lake Albert takes on Royals while Harlequins play third-placed CSU.
In the division one women’s competition reigning premiers, Rosellas returned to the winner’s list after completing a four goal win over a competitive CSU squad.
Most of the damage was done in the first half with Rosellas leading 3-0 early on.
Rosellas’ Carla Bailey led the charge, setting up goals and finding the net herself.
Jo Duck cracked two goals past CSU keeper Rachel Hindi.
In the second half, CSU regrouped and found some structure with Bridget Hetherington and Bernie Howard linking up, making Rosellas work hard to score their fourth goal.
Meantime, Royals have all but secured the minor premiership for 2016, after a 9-1 rout of LAC United on Saturday. Down 2-0 at half time, LAC United had done well to prevent a blow-out in the first half.
A goal from a penalty corner early in the second half to LAC United captain Jesse Thompson brought the score 3-1, and gave the team hope of holding onto to some respectability.
But to no avail, as the Royals forwards plundered the net for the next six goals with veteran Sarah Bonny leading the way.
Royals’ Kalee Gibbons and Emily Paul buffered any forward movement from LAC United, keeping the ball in the Royals’ attacking zone.
The win moves Royals 12 points clear of the nearest rival, Rosellas with five rounds left.
Rosellas have a game in hand against CSU but need win all matches and Royals to lose all their remaining games to steal the minor premiership off Royals.
The two winners from Round 15, Rosellas and Royals, have a week off as third-placed LAC United meets fourth-placed CSU in Round 16.
