You’ve just turned 18 – Stevie Wright is dominating the radio airwaves with his hit Evie and you’re looking to burn some energy after a long week at work.
The only place that offered late-night entertainment in the city was the Wagga Boat Club.
When you arrived there, the resident band was already rocking out tunes.
Mayberry Park’s Tom Looney is giving the city a chance to experience a blast from the past.
He has organised a “Back to the Boat Club” night to raise money for Country Hope.
Country Hope is a Riverina-based charity organisation that assist children and their families suffering from cancer and other life threatening illnesses.
Mr Looney said the band broke up in 1981, but the current members have been practising the house down ahead of its one-off performance.
“We’re hoping to pack the place out,” he said.
Mayberry Park will play hits from bands like The Eagles, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and The Beatles.
Mr Looney said Neil Diamond’s classic “Sweet Caroline” always got revellers on the dancefloor.
It will be held on Saturday, August 20. The cost for the night will be $20, with all proceeds going back to Country Hope.
Revellers are encouraged to dress up in their ’70s gear, although it is optional.
