After deciding to have the week, Smart was on the sidelines as Gundagai destroyed the Bulldogs 84-10.
He later described the 72-point massacre as “one of their best” performances.
“At other times we’ve probably been guilty of trying to deliver the killer blow too early,” Smart said.
“Today we just kept building and created points through attack as well as defence. We forced mistakes.”
Continuing his red-hot form, explosive centre Damian Willis blasted on four tries to take his season tally to 23.
Likewise, fullback Dane O’Hehir was again in domineering touch, while stand-in skipper Brett Eccleston was the star in the pack.
Set to return for next Sunday’s blockbuster clash with Young at Alfred Oval, Smart is relishing the challenge of playing two finals aspirants in the remaining three games.
