Football Wagga cancelled all senior round 14 games this weekend, as 15mm of rain fell on Friday and Saturday on previously-damaged grounds
“I feel very strongly in the fact that first grade shouldn’t be cancelled,” South Wagga coach Andrew Hull said.
“Every other sport in Wagga can be played, why can’t ours?”
Fifth-placed Warriors were shoo-ins to defeat Nomads on Sunday, a team that’s yet to win a game this season.
“It’s not just that we were favourites, for us, it’s one game less to catch those top teams,” Hull said.
Six teams have been in the running to finish in the top four.
Second-placed Cootamundra and third-placed Tolland (now in fourth after a loss to Junee in the catch-up game on Sunday) were spared by the cancellation; to Cootamundra, losing would have meant dropping beneath Lake Albert by three points and to Tolland, Henwood Park may have gained even more ground on them.
In form Henwood Park Hawks were disappointed not to play and beat an injury-riddled Junee squad, Wagga United Crows were hoping to beat eighth-placed Tumut again, and Lake Albert Sharks would have liked to take three points from a languishing Young outfit.
