"I WOULD like to see it (the immigration of Muslims) stopped now for Australia because I would like to feel safe as all of our citizens do when they go out to celebrate Australia Day and I'd like to see freedom of speech,” Sonia Kruger is quoted as saying in The Sydney Morning Herald.

The Herald’s story went on to quote a Dr Jakubowicz, who claimed that public debate on Islam had been "on for young and old" since Attorney-General George Brandis asserted that people have "a right to be bigots”.
Continuing on the theme of Ms Kruger’s comments, he said that we're not seeing any Federal Government ministers standing up and saying “this is absolutely ridiculous”.
Well, we’ve just had a federal election which the Government nearly lost.
People voted for parties like Pauline Hanson’s in their droves, because despite the Government’s “Stop the boats” rhetoric, Malcolm Turnbull’s lame promise to give preference to the refugees who are fleeing Muslim violence was not reflected in the legislation.
Conservative voters believed that he did not have the fortitude to act.
Pauline Hanson achieved 1.17 quotas in her own right in Queensland.
At this stage of counting it would appear likely that she will be joined by three more One Nation senators.
“Why did so many people vote for far right candidates?” is the question Malcolm Turnbull and Dr Jakubowicz should be asking.
Seeing the image of a child slain by the crazed Nice terrorist was the final straw for Ms Kruger, who has recently become a mother.
"There's some pretty angry people out there and I think Sonia Kruger is just the tip of the iceberg in that respect,” Dr Vincent O'Donnell, from RMIT said in The Herald’s report.
But he added that the media may give the "false apprehension that the world is worse now than ever”.
The Nice truck terrorist was beamed into our lounge rooms as it was happening.
Dr O’Donnell is like so many other well-meaning leftist media commentators who miss the point.
Voters can make up their own minds, and mothers, like Ms Kruger seeing the images of slain children, are entitled to say that we don’t want to see that kind of thing here in Australia.
For saying what she said, Kruger has been called a bigot, a racist, Islamophobic, all the usual stuff.
But I think that so many Australians would believe that Rita Panahi from The Herald-Sun is closer to the mark when she says, “This is the standard modus operandi of the supposedly tolerant Left; harass, intimidate and ultimately silence dissenting voices.”
And this was Tony Jones’ mission when he baited Pauline Hanson on Q&A last Monday.
Ms Hanson showed that she has matured, and trashed Mr Jones as he tried to talk over her.
Watching Greens’ Senator Larissa Waters on Q&A, it was easy to see why The Greens lost votes and seats.
She is so out of touch with Australian voters on this issue.
The Liberals’ insipid Simon Birmingham, who as Education Minister dallied instead of immediately banning Safe Schools, showed why the Liberals had such a poor showing at the election.
I wouldn’t vote for her, but watching Ms Hanson handle Mr Jones, I think we are in for an interesting parliament that will not be able to sweep big issues like migration under the carpet.
