In 2014, the then-puppy disappeared off the back of their ute.
The Galloway family were devastated and assumed Richie was dead.
But 10 days later, they couldn’t believe their eyes when Richie turned up on their Adelong property’s back porch.
The 12-month-old pup had somehow made the 45 kilometre journey along the Snowy Mountain Highway back.
He had a good life even though it was very short.
- Paul Galloway snr
Paul Galloway snr said Richie and another working dog Buster consumed the fox bait accidentally last Tuesday.
They were both poisoned within two minutes of each other.
Mr Galloway said Richie’s death was an unfortunate side effect of living on the land.
He was a mate but he was a working dog as well,” he said.
The farmer said he took comfort in knowing that Richie had been well loved by the family and had an adventure under his belt.
“They miss him, he was a part of the family, but such is life,” Mr Galloway snr said.
“He loved the farm, he loved working the life.
“He had a good life even though it was very short.”
Mr Galloway snr said the family would be looking to replace the two dogs with new puppies.
