But thanks to a generous donation from the Rotary Club of Wagga, homeless people who can’t be given a bed in the shelter will still have something to keep them warm on the streets.
The club has purchased and given the St Vincent de Paul shelter 30 swags to distribute to homeless men and women.
Edel Quinn provides crisis accommodation and support for men and women.
The swags will protect them from the freezing winter conditions.
Wagga Rotary Club member Allan Duffus said the donation of sleeping bags and blankets was a regular project for the club.
“We’ve been doing it for a number of years now,” he said.
“The problem is Edel Quinn is sometimes full, so the swags are extremely useful.”
The swags are made especially for homeless people sleeping rough on the streets, Mr Duffus said.
“They are made in Queensland by prison inmates,” he said.
The swag donation comes after the Rotary Club of Wagga and St Vincent de Paul joined forces in May for the Winter Warmth appeal.
