While clubs have been planning catch-up games, and Football Wagga has confirmed it’s not cancelling any rounds at this stage, punters have taken to the Daily Advertiser website, demanding a rebate.
A Daily Advertiser poll revealed a commanding majority of readers believe players are entitled to a rebate if the condition of the grounds prevents them from playing all 18 rounds. But a rebate is “highly unlikely” according to Football Wagga president Erwin Budde.
“Our costs are fixed regardless of how many actual games are played in a season,” Budde said.

“The only variable is referee costs, and Football Wagga only charges clubs for the referees that are appointed to games. If a game is cancelled there is no cost to the clubs. Whether clubs pass that on as a saving to their players is up to them.”
The poll asked readers if players in the Football Wagga competition should be entitled to a rebate if they don't end up playing 18 rounds of soccer. 82 per cent voted yes, 16 per cent voted no, and two percent voted no, not this season.
