Kangaroos players Warren Lloyd, Trenten King and Jake Dooley as well as Brothers’ Cade Price and Sione Nuilia will miss the next two weeks after being found guilty of Rule 48a (i) and (ii).
They were found to have brought the game disrepute by becoming involved in conduct deemed detrimental or prejudicial to the welfare and good image of the game.
The biggest issue surrounded the players jumping the fence after full-time and being involved in a brawl.
All were given seven-week suspensions at a special hearing in front of the Group Nine board on Monday night.
However, five of those weeks have been suspended until the end of the season.
Brothers forward Brayden Sharrock was found not guilty of the same charge.
Group Nine president Jack Morton revealed his occupation as a police officer was the deciding factor.
“Once over the fence he was over the fence as a police officer,” Morton said.
Morton said the board learned that “a policeman is always on duty.”
The decision was met by anger and disbelief by players from both clubs.
All players have been advised of their rights to appeal.
The Group Nine board were still considering penalties for reserve grade players who were spectators and became involved in the brawl when The Daily Advertiser was published.
