It was a depressing day for reigning premiers CSU who lost their third successive game.
Already impacted by player unavailability due to the uni break, CSU’s Thomas Belling sustained an injury in the three-goal loss.
Belling copped a ball to the face and a visit to hospital confirmed he had a broken chin.
There was little to celebrate for CSU, as Paul Oakman led the way for Lake Albert and linked well with team mates Craig Knowles and Brendan Pottie.
Tom Crossland scored a hat-trick of goals, backing up from the five goals he scored in a the division two fixture earlier in the day.
Meantime the Royals defeated Harlequins 9-3.
After a run of wins the Harlequins came crashing back to earth in the top of the table clash at Jubilee Park.
In an all-round team performance, Royals spread the goal-scoring with six different players finding the net.
The Harlequins were two players short and the Royals made them pay.
Brothers Josh and Pat O’Donnell dominated across the field while young gun Liam Dobbie contributed with two handy goals, as Harlequins unable contain the youthful Royals side.
Sam Whitfield was one of few Harlequins players to provide resistance.
The win puts Royals back on top on the ladder for the first time in four rounds as Harlequins drop to second.
In the division one women’s competition the Royals further cemented their grip on top of the ladder with an 8-1 win over the highly-fancied LAC United team.
With the welcomed return of Royals captain Emily Paul back from injury, the much anticipated-fixture between to two teams quickly turned into a one-sided affair.
Despite both teams missing their leading goal scorers Sam Swaysland (LAC United) and Aimee Elliott (Royals), the Royals made up for it with Maree Beresford who scored three, Sarah Bonny who scored two and young forward Kalee Gibbons who netted two goals.
LAC United goalkeeper Mel Rogers was unable to stop the onslaught as Royals players Isobel Cowell and Clara Dobbie dominated in the middle.
