What’s in a name?
The proposed new names for the merged Cootamundra and Gundagai council appear to be too long and cluttered.

I suggest the title Gundamundra Shire Council be adopted.
This will give both existing councils an identity without becoming too cumbersome.

Don’t trust queer agenda
I SINCERELY regret the loss to the gay community and humanity with the shocking massacre at Orlando.
The following letter was written before that dreadful event, but I believe it is still relevant.
Anthony Albanese attended a dinner in Wagga recently.
With Labor committed to repealing the marriage laws to accommodate the gay lobby and leader Bill Shorten talking of mandating the Safe School program in all schools, “Albo” has no choice but to follow suit.
Another concern is the neo-Marxist influence in unions and universities with the same left-wing unions impacting Labor Party policies.
Consider the recent case of La Trobe Uni being forced to reinstate lesbian Marxist Roz Ward through legal action by the National Tertiary Education Union.
Certainly the Education Union of Australia were working for years to foist the LGBTIQ agenda on our schools.
A vote for Labor and the Greens in the election will be a vote for same-sex redefinition of marriage and Safe Schools/LGBTIQ indoctrination in schools.
If Australians really want the changes, the Coalition, if elected, will hold a plebiscite – at least the Australian people will have the courtesy of a clear choice.

Asking the hard questions
There are 100 questions that I could ask Julie Choi (DA, letters, June 10) but I will just ask two.
What difference to a patient’s care do penalty rates bring?
Where is the money to come from for all your other wishes that might happen to help patients?
The government is running a deficit now.

Where’s the achievements?
GOT rid of the carbon tax, got rid of the mining tax, got rid of Holden, got rid of Ford, got rid of Toyota, almost wiped out Whyalla and put ATSIC onto Queensland Nickle, losing 46,000 full time permanent manufacturing jobs that will never be replaced. So what’s the government’s real achievements?

Rail trail a winner
I THINK the proposed rail trail between Wagga and Ladysmith is a great idea.
These trails are a great recreational asset that are found all over the world.
I have been on several rail trails in Victoria and found it a great experience seeing countryside that is isolated from any roads.
The management costs that Councillor Brown and McLaren suggest in the June 17 Daily Advertiser are a misconception, because rail trails in other states are maintained by community management committees with their own funds.
Their idea of a land swap with land alongside roads being used as a bike track is not a safe option unless it is well separated from the road by a wide buffer zone, not just a wider shoulder.
A wider road shoulder would not encourage people to use the facility, especially families with young children.
I look forward to using the Wagga to Ladysmith rail trail.
