On the march: Arthur and his cousin George took part in the march from Wagga to Sydney.
They embarked on the Ceramic and undertook training in Egypt and England.
War experience: Arthur was promoted to Lance Corporal and for a while temporary Corporal.
He was involved in the 55th Battalion’s main offensives at Polygon Wood, Passchendaele and Peronne and survived being wounded once and gassed twice.
Life afterwards: Arthur returned to Australia on the Beltana with at least 26 other Kangaroos on June 2, 1919.
He received a warm welcome at the Wagga station and was driven home by car.
Arthur married Ann Day about 1922 and the couple had two children, Arthur and Ruby.
Arthur never recovered from his wartime experience.
He died in Sydney on August 15, 1927, at the age of thirty-four after a long illness.
His name is listed on the Memorial Arch in Wagga.
