These trails are a great recreational asset that is found all over the world. I have been on several rail trails in Victoria and found it a great experience seeing countryside that is isolated from any roads.

The management costs that Councillor Brown and McLaren suggest, in the June 17 The Daily Advertiser, would be prohibitive to ratepayers is a misconception, because rail trails in other states are maintained by community management committees with their own funds.

Their idea of a land swap with land alongside roads being used as a bike track is not a safe option unless it is well separated from the road by a wide buffer zone, not just a wider shoulder.

A wider road shoulder would not encourage people to use the facility, especially families with young children. I look forward to using the Wagga to Ladysmith rail trail.

Mr Dolden raised a very pertinent question in his letter to the editor (The Daily Advertiser, June 18) in regard to outstanding monies owed to the NSW Ambulance Service and the seemingly lack of effort by staff at the State Revenue Office to collect these outstanding debts.

I am sure that there is much more money owed to the state in unpaid traffic fines and other areas of revenue.

It may be time for our local State MP Mr Maguire to raise this issue in state parliament and follow the matter through until he receives a firm and satisfactory answer on what the Office of State revenue will do to resolve these matters.

It is not good enough to allow these matters to remain outstanding but increase government taxes and charges because of the ineptitude of the proper debt authority to fail to collect outstanding monies.

Just in case people have short memories I draw the following to your attention.

Remember the matter of all the accusations against our former Govenor General Peter Hollingsworth?

There was a media feeding frenzy every time his name was mentioned and all sorts of accusations showed up.

And what was he charged with?  Nothing at all. He was a broken man when it all stopped.

Now we have exactly the same campaign against Cardinal George Pell.

When the offences were taking place he was a junior priest in Ballarat, not anywhere in charge of anyone.

One may ask who is behind all this offensive journalism?

The really awful bit that has emerged is that an accusation has now been made public regarding something that may have happened in 1961.

There are only two places where this information could have come from. One is the Victoria Police, and the other is the commission inquiring into the matter. Who leaked this information? Having made such a fuss of rumours and speculation the fools in our media will now try to justify their actions. No fair trial from them.

Parents are confused about whether the ‘Safe Schools’ radical gender theory is being taught in their child’s school. Parents are wanting clarity that NSW schools are following directives from the Federal Education Minister. The program does not represent family values and does not represent issues many parents want discussed with their children. The program needs to go.
