The company already provides collection services to Kapooka Army Base and is looking to expand its footprint in the Riverina. They also operate a bio-reactor in Tarago, NSW generating energy from waste.
“There’s tremendous opportunities to bring best practice to Wagga,” Veolia’s general manager Daniel Paone said.
“The key for us is waste management practises can be improved. There’s ways to use waste to remediate soil, generate gas or create energy.
“Waste is becoming a resource, it’s what you do with the waste which will make a difference for the generations which follow us.”
Mr Paone said throwing rubbish into a hole is not an effective long-term solution to waste management. He said Veoila had held meetings with Wagga City Council and businesses including Wagga Motors.
“Collecting waste is the easy part, we need to educate the community about recycling, removing waste from the general waste stream,” Mr Paone said.
Wagga’s Glenn Quade will be regional manager, based in the city.
