Kooringal High’s Ellen McIntyre, 16, entered the triple jump and smashed the existing record by almost two metres.
The previous record, set in 2011, was 8.67m, and McIntyre jumped 10.37m at Jubilee Park.
While many girls lose interest in athletics during their teenage years, McIntyre’s love for the sport has grown stronger; jumping events are her favourite.
“I like getting lots of speed and jumping really high,” she said.
Watch this space, she’s driven and focused on success.
“I’d like to go to the Olympics one year, and hopefully win a medal, wear the Australian uniform and make my country proud,” she said.
