Only a handful of people attended at meeting at Forest Hill Public School last Tuesday night addressed by the senior Australian Defence Force officer at RAAF Base Wagga, Group Captain Ross Jones.
A reader responded to The Daily Advertiser’s report on the meeting by commenting on the Advertiser’s website: “Only 4 people attended because only 4 people knew. The vast majority of Forest Hill residents had no idea this meeting was happening.”
The president of the Forest Hill Progress Association, Kevin Kerr, agreed the meeting could have been given more publicity and residents given more notice.
“They did not give people much notice, unfortunately,” Mr Kerr said.
Mr Kerr suggested additional ways to publicise a meeting could be a letterbox drop, posters in Forest Hill shop windows and word of mouth by letting people in positions of community leadership know the dates of future meetings with plenty of time to spread the word.
Group Captain Jones on Tuesday said there had been feedback that not enough Forest Hill residents knew the meeting was on.
“I have taken it on board,” he said.
Group Captain Jones said he would add social media to the arms of publicity, and was joining the Forest Hill Neighbourhood Watch Facebook site.
“When I know information I will also post it on there,” he said.
“We will reach out as much as we can. At the end of the day I want the community to know what is going on. I will share everything I have with the community.”
Groundwater is to be tested in June for the presence of the two chemicals and results will be made public once they are available in late July.
Mr Kerr said if tests found the chemicals had migrated past the base fence line there could be concern among residents.
