The development was revealed during a bail variation application on behalf of the accused – Alemeseged Dubael – by solicitor David Barron on Tuesday.
The application was granted, allowing Dubael to return home to Victoria between court appearances.
The case will next be mentioned on July 27.
The variation was not opposed by the prosecution.
Conditions of Dubael’s bail include living at a St Alban’s address, reporting to police daily, not applying for a passport and not entering any point of international departure.
Dubael has not yet been required to enter a plea to a charge of sexual intercourse without consent.
It is alleged 26-year-old Dubael forced a 20-year-old female recruit to the floor of a laundry at the Army Recruit Training Centre at Kapooka and sexually assaulted her last Wednesday between 6.30pm and 7pm.
He was arrested about 2.30am on Thursday.
