Anglicare will work alongside the Department of Justice to try to reduce the re-offending rate of young criminals amid a surging youth crime-wave. 

Mentors will guide young offenders in the last six months of their sentence, and through the first six months of their release from detention. 

Riverina Anglicare general manager Brad Addison believes the program will reduce crime and prevent young people from transitioning into adult prisons. 

“This initiative will provide the support and encouragement they need to bring about changes in their outlook and behaviour,” he said. 

“Young offenders in Wagga and the Riverina often face a variety of challenges such as homelessness and mental health problems.

“We want to see young people leading good, fulfilling lives.”
