So why has Oura been given the dubious honour of having NSW’s lowest median house price?
Latest figures reveal the village of about 400 people, located 15km north-east of Wagga, has a median house price of just $65,219, despite hosting a number of multi-million farming properties. Sydney’s median house price is $950,574.
Just how Oura became the low-rent capital of NSW has both locals and real estate agents mystified.
“It’s hard to know how they arrived at these figures but perhaps it has something to do with the 2012 floods," PRD Nationwide Wagga director Simon Freemantle said. “Half of the main street was flood-affected and all new homes now have to be built above the one in 100 year flood zone. But it’s a great little village with a real community feel.”
