Tolland worked in triangles to elude South Wagga’s defence and score three early goals.
South Wagga replied, gaining possession, working forward and attaining a penalty-kick from a handball in the box.
South Wagga’s Melanie Parker stepped up and smashed it into the back of the net; South Wagga wasn’t going down without a fight.
At half-time Tolland coach Sam Gray urged the girls to lift the intensity.
Strategically, South’s forward Anne Noonan moved into a roving defensive midfield position to clog leaks.
Newcomer to soccer Katie Guymer showed commitment on the wing, driving the ball forward and with backing from class player Louise Stott, the girls created a wealth of chances.
Tolland was focused on combinations and positional play rather than burying the opposition.
”Both teams set out to play a passing style of football which was pleasing for all involved,” Gray said.
Goals: (Tolland) Lauren Rouse-Upjohn, Olivia Tannock, Georgina Flanagan, Katrina Crock, Katie Guymer (South Wagga) Melanie Parker.
In competition standings Henwood Park edged further ahead of Tolland, with the amount of goals scored being the sole factor separating the two teams.
Henwood Park dominated Lake Albert 18-0 and Junee defeated Wagga United 7-1 at Rawlings Park on Sunday.
