Coota defeated United 2-0 at Rawlings Park on Saturday night.
Coota scored off a corner and off a long-range shot in the first half, and fought to retain the lead until the final whistle.
With rain disrupting training and games, players out including United’s captain Daniel Lawrence (suspended), left back Chris Walker (injured 15 minutes in) and Jarrod Bennett (injured), and keeper Andrew McCracken making an early comeback from a shoulder injury, United did not pack its usual punch.
“All credit to Coota, they’re a solid team," United coach David McGowan said.
It’s a new feeling [loss], one we need to have so the boys can improve
- Wagga United coach David McGowan
“We were out-played.”
McGowan’s “slightly disappointed” but hopes the loss will kick the men into top gear.
“It’s a new feeling, one we need to have so the boys can improve,” he said.
“We definitely have improvement in us.
“We’ll be hunting for a win next time we play them.”
The result cements Coota in second spot and sends Wagga United out of the top four to fifth in the Pascoe Cup competition.
