Kildare will be out to stop Mater Dei Catholic College from a third consecutive Carroll Cup triumph when they meet at Robertson Oval.
Last year, Kildare led by 32 points midway through the third quarter before a 17-man Mater Dei team staged a remarkable comeback to claim the final by one point.
McGowan said that fateful night has not been forgotten.
“It’s high motivation,” McGowan said.
“Having played in it, it wasn’t real fun.
“Most of our team from this year played last year so there is plenty of fire in the belly from the boys.”
Kildare will go into the final as favourite, having moved through the competition undefeated, including a 40-point victory over Mater Dei two weeks ago.
Mater Dei captain Dylan Morton has full belief in his team’s ability to turn it around and thinks it will come down to several one-on-one battles.
“Yeah I do think we have a chance, we’re just going to need everyone to play their part and do their job,” Morton said.
“They have good players all over the field but I think it’s going to come down to the pockets and flanks and winning those one-on-one battles.”
Morton described the final as a huge game for both schools.
“There is a lot of pride and respect on the line,” he said.
