The Kurrajong Waratah race day attracted nearly 3000 people despite the races being called off due to wet weather.
“There is some disappointment from having the races called off but people could focus on having a great day,” Kurrajong Waratah development services manager Cathie Smith said.
“The day is a real testament to the generosity of the community.”
The format of the event means there is no money raised on the day, instead all the fundraising is done before hand.
While the full amount is yet to be calculated, Mrs Smith believes it will be a record amount.
“It is an unusual formula but it is a successful formula,” she said.
“We want to facilitate people so they can choose the things they want to do and days like today enable us to do that.”
The organisation is supported by a dedicated committee of just 10 people and the small staff.
Kurrajong Waratah gives support to more than 1300 babies, children and adults with disabilities in the Riverina Murray region.
