The planning officer has recommended the development application not be approved.
Multinational paper company Visy uses the site to dump non-putrescible waste from its mill, located near Tumut.
“After due consideration of all relevant matters this planning assessment process has concluded that the proposal should not proceed as a result of a number of issues identified during the assessment and subsequent advice from the NSW Environment Protection Authority that it does not support the proposal and is not able to issue conditions of approval,” the report to the Southern Region Joint Planning Panel (JRPP) said.
The 25-page report used information from environmental impact statements, including those prepared by Salvestro Planning on behalf of the applicant, MH Earthmoving Pty Ltd. Environmental Protection Agency testing was also conducted on the site after claims a clay lining was cracked, leaking contaminants into nearby waterways.
The document will be considered with other evidence by the JRPP and will be presented at a determination hearing on Monday, June 6, at Gundagai High School from 2pm.
