Hana Sawal won silver in the 12 and 13 years’ girl’s kata event and Inigo Bardos won bronze in the 12 and 13 years’ boy’s kata event.
Kata requires the athlete and their opponent to perform a specified series of a variety of moves, with stepping and turning, in an attempt to maintain perfect form.
Wagga karate coach Sawal Salleh praised his Shinwa-Kai Karate Club students for succeeding in the prestigious tournament.
“To earn a medal in such a high-level competition as this is not an easy feat,” Salleh said.
“It takes lots of purposeful training, self-discipline, focus, dedication and commitment.
“Both Hana and Inigo have tirelessly put in hours of regular training and it has paid off.”
