A story run in The Daily Advertiser last month calling for volunteers to start a Wagga branch of the Make a Wish Foundation has rendered results.
Ben Elliott and nine others are starting a Wagga branch, which should be operational by late June or early July.
“I thought it was a great opportunity to raise some money and raise the profile of the organisation in Wagga,” he said.
Mr Elliott has two small children and shudders to think of what he would do if they ever got seriously ill.
He was inspired to join the cause by assisting with the formation of the Wagga branch.
“It gives these children so much hope and builds their resilience and gets them through the dark days,” he said.
Mr Elliott will run his first marathon, 42.2 kilometres, in September to raise money and the profile of the Wagga branch.
“The money raised will go towards granting the wishes of Wagga’s children,” he said.
Mr Elliott regularly runs but said he has never run as far as this before.
He predicts many cold, wet and early mornings and lots of hours on the road in preparation.
