The arsenal found in the Ashmont home of Dwayne Valentine Noack included a PVC pipe cannon, a ramset gun modified to fire bullets and a considerable amount of ammunition.
According to police facts tendered to Wagga Local Court this week, 45-year-old Noack arrived home shortly after a search warrant was executed on August 25.
Police found in the living room what they described as a “large PVC cannon” almost two metres long.
“It is designed to propel a missile by means other than an explosive,” the facts said.
They also found a ramset gun, which they said had been modified “from being a simple tool to become an actual firearm capable of firing bullets”.
And they also found a considerable amount ammunition of various calibres, a laptop that had been reported stolen in Griffith and cannabis seeds.
Noack told police he had given a man $20 cash and $20 worth of cannabis for the laptop.
Representing Noack in court, solicitor Tim Hemsley said Noack held the weapons as a “defensive mechanism” and suffered mental health problems for which he was receiving treatment.
Noack was fined $400 for possessing the ammunition, ordered to perform 50 hours community service for having the pipe cannon, placed on a 12-month supervised good behaviour bond for having the ramset gun and placed on further good behaviour bonds for supplying the cannabis and dealing with property suspected of being proceeds of crime.
Noack was also fined a total of $300 and put off the road for five months for driving with an illicit drug in his system three times.
Meanwhile, a Mount Austin man who threatened to kill a neighbour while police were standing next to him has been placed on a 12-month good behaviour bond after pleading guilty to intimidation.
Brian Arthur Clarke, 54, was also fined and disqualified from driving on three counts of driving with an illicit drug in his system.
