Solutions to problems
The problem with parking in the northern end of downtown Wagga has been the case for some years and yet the City Council fails to make some simple changes to existing parking arrangements that, while not solving the problem entirely, would ease parking availability in the area.

One important factor is that there is all day parking at the Beach Car Park of which approximately 60+ are under lights.
The following changes could be effected in one day:
· Convert all-day parking in the Barrand Street car park to two-hour.
· Place large signs there indicating all-day parking availability at the Beach car park.
· Convert all-day parking in front of Mission Australia in Gurwood Street to one or two-hour parking.
· Change all-day parking in Morrow Street beside the Civic Theatre to one-hour.
There is all-day parking available across the road at the Cross Street Park.
· In Tarcutta Street, between Morrow and Thompson Streets, take the all-day from the western side of the street to the river side; make the western side the three-hour parking to allow for the residents on that side of the street.
· Make both sides of Church Street two-hour parking. This would allow for funerals at both St John’s and the cathedral and for visitors to residents in the street. Remember there is all-day parking at the Beach.
There is need for further consideration of a long-term solution to the down town parking shortage.
However, the above changes would alleviate the problem and could be achieved in a day or two.

Attendants do a great job
I would like to commend the staff at Wagga Railway Station for their excellent service and commitment.
I am a volunteer at St Vincent de Paul Care and Support Centre and we are often required to organise train travel for our clients.
We talk directly to staff at Wagga Railway Station and they process tickets which clients collect from the Railway Station.
The staff members are always helpful and respectful and go out of their way to make sure the clients’ needs are met.
I believe it is essential that staff remain at Wagga Railway Station to ensure that this level of service continues.

Words are not iconic
The most used and worn out in-words these days (years) are icon and iconic.
You can see them on almost every newspaper page.
Please journalists, writers of articles and letters, delete these over-used words from your daily writings and be a bit more original.

Hydro pool needs space
Council and NSW Government have said the public can use the hydrotherapy pool at the Oasis instead of the hospital pool. Today I went to watch my grandchildren at a learn-to-swim lesson. While they were being instructed, two elderly men got in the pool and one swam through all the small children in the lessons. Then a woman in a wheelchair was wheeled into the pool and ended up face down in the water. Not a nice sight, let alone for three-year-olds, surely there should be a separation of times for lessons and the elderly. The elderly should be given some privacy and the young ones their lessons without interruption.
