Hopper dominated in his AFL debut for Greater Western Sydney on Saturday and picked up 32 disposals in the Giants’ 91-point win over Gold Coast Suns.
Hopper had 13 kicks and 19 handballs in an impressive debut performance and was announced as the round eight Rising Star on Monday night.
GWS coach Leon Cameron was full of praise for Hopper’s AFL debut.
“I was really proud of him, because he obviously played a great game and you can’t get away from that,” Cameron said after the game.
“It’s good for him and his family to witness his first game...he loves to tackle and he loves to win contested ball and that’s all you can ask for from a young kid like that.”
Hopper joins the likes of Jacob Weitering, Darcy Parish and Clayton Oliver as one of the weekly nominees for the AFL Rising Star award.
The overall winner is decided at the season’s end.
