The ACT Meteors have made a big statement for the 2016-17 cricket season with the signing of former World Cup winning Australian captain Jodie Fields.

Fields captained the Southern Stars to victories at the 2013 Women's World Cup and the 2012 Women's World Twenty20 tournaments, before her retirement from the international stage in 2014.
She has since been based in Queensland, with stints for the Queensland Fire in the Women's National Cricket League and the Brisbane Heat in the Women's Big Bash league.
Nicola Hancock, 20, and Emily Leys, 23, have also signed on for the Meteors. Both are experienced in the WNCL and WBBL, and Hancock recently toured Sri Lanka with the Australia A side.
Not returning to the side are internationals Sara McGlashan and Lea Tahuhu, both unavailable due to New Zealand Silver Fern and domestic commitments.
"Our focus this season will be to continue raise the professional standards of our ACT Meteors squad to provide a platform for our players to fulfil their potential, both on and off the field," said Aiden Blizzard, the ACT Cricket Director of High Performance .
The WNCL occupies the first half of the cricketing summer, before the WBBL kicks off in December.
