Jason Rogers, 43, of Young has pleaded guilty in Young Local Court to three counts of wilful and obscene exposure in a public place, behave in an offensive manner in a public place, resist officer in the execution of duty and assault officer in the execution of duty.
The offences were committed at Young between October 12 and December 31 last year.
Rogers’ solicitor Rachael Power told the court her client - who suffers from a health condition and has an extensive history of similar behaviour - had briefly served custody from his offences committed in October.
“Mr Rogers tells me he had been taking methamphetamine that day as a way to cope,” Ms Power said.
“He tells me he’s completely abstained from using illicit substances.”
Ms Power said Rogers had been working hard to rehabilitate himself and had struck up a good relationship with his health professionals.
Magistrate Peter Dare SC agreed he was a man who needed help and decided to suspend a nine month prison sentence.
He also fined Rogers $150 for each of his obscene exposure and offensive behaviour offences.
According to police facts tendered in court, a driver was travelling on Noonans Road on December 31 when she spotted Rogers wearing nothing but a pair of sneakers and walking along the roadway.
As she drove past him, he knelt down on his knees next to the road, facing her.
Police attended the area a short time later and were flagged down by a number of concerned neighbours.
They told police they had been witness to Rogers’ behaviour on more than one occasion.
Officers attended Rogers’ address in Spring Creek Road, where he was found this time wearing long pants and a grey shirt.
He denied leaving his house and refused to open the screen door to police, telling them “no not today, I’ll come to the station tomorrow”.
He continued to refuse to open the door to police, who were eventually forced to pick the lock.
