Lightly-raced three-year-old Croix De Vie ($17.00) produced a barnstorming finish to take out the Moane Fitzgerald Constructions Class One & Maiden Plate (1600m).
Joseph has been a regular at the Wagga carnival for many years and she was again to the fore at Wagga, these days in a training partnership with son Paul Jones.
The pair have a nice opinion of Croix De Vie and were not surprised to see him score.
“He’s a quality horse,” Jones said.
“We thought if he came out and won well at Canberra last start we would go to the Guineas.
“He didn’t win so we decided to go towards this and win our maiden first.”
Kayla Nisbet rode for luck and got the gaps in the straight to edge out Onemore Bopa ($4.60) by ¾ lengths.
