She has watched her sister and her husband die from the disease and the grief sparked her into action.
In 1995, the Wagga Machine Knitters Club, of which she is currently president of, all chipped in $1 each to raise $5 for the Cancer Council.
They hosted their first Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea the following year.
“I thought it would be a good idea to fundraise,” Mrs Piltz said.
The organisation has held a morning tea each year since and raised $21,173.45.
They are hoping to crack the $22,000 mark this year.
"As the years have gone by, we have got better at it,” she said.
“It makes you feel uplifted to be able to do something for all the people who do suffer, and there’s plenty of them.”
The club has held a raffle each year since 2005, with prizes including items knitted or donated by the members.
All members of the public are invited to the Wagga Machine Knitters Club’s Australia’s Biggest Morning tea at the ARCC Hall on May 10 from 11am.
Residents and community groups are encouraged to host an Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea between now until June by registering at www.biggestmorningtea.com.au.
