Mr Williams, who hung up his trade boots 10-years ago, told of his struggles to live because superannuation was introduced too late for him to accumulate it. 

A taxation relief for pensioners was at the top of his budget wish-list, but it never came. 

“The pensioner has been left out this time, there's basically been no direct mention of us and I think they could have given us more of a chance,” he said. 

"I'm quite disappointed for us country retirees, I understand there’s limited money going around, but it’s deflating.” 

But the former tradesman has expressed his approval for a $5 billion dental funding scheme for concession card holders which will see seniors and low income earners entitled to subsidised treatments.

The dental subsidies will be accompanied by a $2.9 billion funding boost for state hospitals. 

“It’s something that becomes a bit bigger deal for us retired folk, we have to keep on top of our health and we’re likely to run into problems as time goes on,” he said. 

"For our age bracket, it's certainly ease of mind to know we’ll have better access to the services.”
