The story of local man Ben Ramage’s rare and crippling cancer touched the hearts of many and is now seeing a local business rally the community to raise funds for the suffering Ramage family.
Mr Ramage’s employer, Wagga Car Radio, along with air conditioning specialist company, Webasto, will be auctioning off an air conditioner and free installation to the highest bidder, with all proceeds going to the Ramages.
Mr Ramage, who has recently returned to work after undergoing surgery, said he was overwhelmed by the support he had received.
“It’s such a lovely gesture and we've gotten so much support from the community,” he said. “I felt very guilty at first, getting help from people we didn’t even know, but we really need the help, because now I can focus on my recovery, instead of on our finances.”
Mr Ramage was diagnosed with an exceptionally rare cancer affecting one in every 500,000 people earlier this year.
He has been receiving treatment in Sydney and has only just returned home, but his condition is still being closely monitored.
Bids for the $6000 air conditioner can be made by calling Wagga Car Radio from May 9 until June 9, when the winner will be announced.
