The ownership taken on the garden by the centre’s youth is designed to teach them life skills needed to live independently.
Youth living in the centre are escaping terrible family circumstances and Mission Australia’s Eastern Murrumbidgee Youth Services youth outreach co-ordinator, Sam Lloyd, said this is the ideal project to keep them motivated.
“It encourages young people that are staying at the refuge to be more sustainable and learn skills to be self-sufficient,” he said.
Bunnings donated material and workers to make the garden and Mount Austin High School will donate seedlings from their agricultural patch to be planted.
