The Demons kicked the opening eight goals of the game and then managed to hold out the Lions, despite an injury crisis, to win 13.8 (86) to 10.9 (69) at Ganmain Sportsground.
The Demons were left without any bench before half-time then two further injuries forced them to play injured players in order to hang on for the four points.
CGP assistant coach Chris Gow labelled it one of the club’s best wins.
“It was a massive win, one of the biggest wins as far as character goes that I’ve seen at the club in the last six or seven years.
“I’ve been out there a long time and it was one of the best wins I’ve been involved in. Just the way they did it.”
Matt Klemke and Nick Perryman went down with knee injuries early in the game. Both had been very good early and have been cleared of an ACL injury in the early diagnosis.
Luke Powell was the third to go down just before half-time with a suspected broken ankle.
In the third quarter, Geoff Spriggs (hamstring) and Nathan Fuller (groin) came off with injuries but were forced to return to give the Demons 18 on the field.
Jayden Klemke played one of his best games for the club to get them home, while Dan Kennedy and Kal Sykes also shone.
